This is a prestigious harbourside village directly beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge, home to both Kirribilli House, the Prime Minister's Sydney residence, and Admiralty House nearby.

It's also genuinely dense. Roughly 87% of dwellings are flats or apartments, a lot of them 1920s and 1930s Art Deco or interwar walk-up blocks, sitting among Victorian terraces and Federation homes on tight, sloping streets.

That combination of age and density creates two faults we see constantly. Ceramic-fuse switchboards are still common in the older walk-up blocks, well short of what modern circuit protection actually requires.

Safety switches are frequently missing entirely too, since a lot of this housing predates RCD requirements by several decades of building code changes.

Sitting fully exposed to the harbour, this peninsula carries a genuinely high salt exposure rating, and it works fast on anything metal left uncovered. An outdoor meter box or an old switch left unsealed will corrode well ahead of schedule here.

Businesses aren't uncommon here either, tucked in around the cafes near the water, and commercial fit-outs get the same compliance-first approach as any residential job would.

Two independent schools sit within the village, along with a long-established theatre and a historic sailing club on the Careening Cove waterfront, and each of those buildings carries its own switchboard demands well beyond anything a single house would ever need day to day.
